Ugh!
“WE HAVE MET THE ENEMY AND HE IS US.”
Walt Kelly
We have people passing laws to deny transgender (TG) people from using the public restroom of the gender they identify with. We have people passing laws to mandate TGs be allowed to use the public restrooms of the gender they identify with. We have private corporations making rules regarding TGs and public restroom use. And now, we have the federal government via Presidential direction ordering that schools allow TGs to use the public facilities of the TG’s choice.
Is this a legitimate issue that needed addressing, or is it an insidiously manufactured wedge issue designed to distract us? Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t recall this being an issue prior to a couple weeks ago. Ergo, I pick manufactured wedge issue. Politicians, media, maybe both, but all these recent happenings play right into both their hands. Did you know that while everyone is worked up over TG public restroom access that Congress has been doing things such as seeking a raise, denying Social Security cost-of-living increases, and so on? You know, the stuff that actually affects us on a daily basis. Yes, wedge issue meant to distract us.
Now, having said that, as much as I disapprove of any laws regarding TG restroom access in either direction, I especially disapprove of the federal government sticking its hand in this issue in any way, shape, or form. This issue is simply not in their legitimate bounds of interest.
Am I a bad person for thinking this whole thing is just a huge waste of time?
