Are there any Constitutional Amendments you’d like to see repealed? If so, which ones and why?
If it were up to me, these are the ones I’d repeal, and immediately…
17th – Provides for popular election of US Senators: This Amendment upset the proper balance of power. States now get unfunded mandates, and get blackmailed with, “If you don’t do what we want, we’ll take away your highway money.”, because they have no voice to speak for them in Congress. It would not be taking anything away from the people, as the people have the House to represent their interests.
22nd – Sets term limits for the Office of President: The people should be free to elect whomever they want. Period. This factor alone trumps all other considerations. I favor no term limits whatsoever, for any office. The people get what they want, whether they realize it or not.
One Amendment people always point to for repeal is the 16th (authorizing income tax). That sounds good, but in my opinion is not practical. Not anymore. I do believe our tax system should be severely curtailed and limited, but not eliminated entirely.
