…symbology. Period. End of discussion.
As we watch former president Trump being indicted left and right… which radcen has not yet addressed… it seems appropriate to point out a couple random thoughts.
There is a famous theory where people routinely rise to one level above their competence level. They’re a success and rise through the ranks until they eventually reach a level beyond their capabilities and they fail. It is more commonly applied to corporate business, but it can apply anywhere.
Donald Trump is something of an enigma. He has managed to “fail up” his entire life. Everything the man touches dies, yet he continued to rise. Until now.
The office of president will be Trump’s downfall. The office of president is Trump’s “Peter Principle”. He has risen to a level where he is completely out of his league. He knows nothing about the operations and limitations of government power and has been continuing to operate on what has worked in the past with lesser adversaries. He believes he can be “The Man” just like he always has been, and it’s biting him in the butt.
After the 2016 election and his inauguration I made the following prediction…
…and I have repeated it many times since. What he has managed to build up, and not yet squandered, is in jeopardy. Had Mr Trump never run for president he’d be remembered in history as just another random eccentric rich person. Now, Mr Trump has exposed himself as a traitor, liar, cheat, thief, and a… loser. And it’s this last one that probably eats at him the most.
And ya know, I’m not sure he cares what his legacy is. He is so deeply insecure he only cares that people worship him right here right now where he can see it and revel in it. Donald Trump should have just stayed home, and I bet his family wishes he had.
Religion: It’s an “all or nothing” deal. You either accept everything… and I mean everything said religion teaches… or you aren’t a believer of your claimed religion. Take it or leave it. Sounds pretty harsh, but it’s true. You don’t get to choose based on your modern day moralities and personal beliefs. That’s not what religion is. You either buy into it, or you don’t.
Yes, there are many religions around the world, but for example purposes will will be using Christianity. (Are Catholics Christian? hmmm…) Anyway, the Bible* says…
So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
~Genesis 1:27 NIV
Dumbed down, we’re made to be like God. That means everything, including morals and ethics and the whole shebang. Fast forward to day and then there’s this…
We have created God in our own image.
~attributed to George Carlin, but who really knows? <shrug>
It’s true. We, each and every one of us, has created, transformed, altered, changed, adjusted, modified, amended, converted… our religion to be more like us as individuals. The exact opposite of the Genesis quote above. Because YOU know better. You’re smart. You have basically set yourself up AS God.
For example, you are a Jupiter Master, and as such your stated religion might say…
Ok, fine. You’re good with all of that, except #4. You have decided jaywalking is not only acceptable, it’s efficient and preferred. Jaywalking is moral and upright.
Well, guess what, you’re not a Jupiter Master. You’re only kidding yourself. To be a Jupiter Master you have to believe and accept 1 thru 5, including #4. You’ve essentially started your own religion while retaining your fantasy of being an enlightened Jupiter Master. In other words, you’re a poser.
Happy Tuesday! 🙂
“To say that the fetus is a person if the mother wants it and it’s not if doesn’t is not science. It’s spin.”
^^This right there!^^
If you know me you know I really don’t give a rat’s ass regarding abortion. I don’t give a rat’s ass about the procedure, that is. Make it legal, I don’t care. Make it illegal, I don’t care. I know that makes some people’s heads explode, so whatever. That’s how I feel, and abortion is a non-starter for me when assessing politicians. And just in case you missed it… I… don’t… care!
What I DO care about is how the law treats abortion-related issues. Again, if you know me you know I want consistency in laws and justice. Inconsistency is not justice. In that vein…
A FETUS IS EITHER A LIFE, OR IT’S NOT
…period. Read it again. And the law needs to treat it as such. The fetus/baby’s status is not dependent on the whim or desire of the person carrying it. Nor is it a sex or gender issue. Nor is it a privacy issue, nor is it a matter of “choice”. It’s a logical impersonal issue of science and reality.
Here’s how absurd our laws currently view abortion: A woman can be driving across town to get an abortion. (By allowing abortions the law says it’s a fetus and not a life.) Another driver runs a red light, smashes into her car, and kills her. The mother does not survive. The other driver survives and is charged with a double homicide, the woman and the fetu… baby. (By charging a double homicide the law says the fetus is a baby… a person… and thus a life.)
How can this be? The law says two completely opposite things in the same scenario. Is the fetus/baby a life, or is it not? Do our lawmakers know what they’re doing? Do WE know what we’re doing when we want such blatant double-standards? We as a collective society need to sit down, catch our breath, take a Valium, and decide if it is a fetus/baby is a life or not, and go with it.
Which one should we choose? I don’t care. Just pick one.
It’s a hard choice, I know, and not necessarily emotionally satisfying as abortion is a highly emotional issue on both sides, but life is full of hard choices… pick one.
Today’s conservatives (read: Trump supporters) seem to be trying very hard to make “whataboutism” a legitimate debate tactic. Seems that every time I turn around they’re making specious arguments with no supporting evidence at all, let alone fact. (As God is my witness, I am convinced today’s Republican don’t even know the definition of “evidence”, but I digress.)
Anyway, back in March 2018 I wrote a piece on “whataboutism”. Long story short whataboutism is frowned upon in most debate circles. Ironically enough, Republicans seem to be going out of their way to set it up as legitimate discourse. Their arguments usually go something like this…
“Joe Biden is incoherent.” Obviously a slam directed at his mental capacities and capabilities in handling the job of president. He probably slurred a word, or misspoke, or whatever. And he does have a history of stuttering. But granted, Joe Biden is not as sharp as he once was, and in an ideal world I’d prefer someone sharper in the job now. Joe Biden has indeed lost a step, in the mind.
We all know the only people saying these things are Trump supporters and they’re inferring Trump was better and more qualified for the job than Biden is. Kind of a pre-emptive whataboutism, if you will. Beat ’em to the punch! If it weren’t so sad and transparently weak it might be mildly humorous.
So for those who are so inclined, what might you “whatabout”? How about this…
Well what I would do, is I would, we would, we have tremendous military capability and what we can do without planes, to be honest with you, without 44-year-old jets, what we can do is enormous, and we should be doing it and we should be helping them to survive and they’re doing an amazing job. (Fox Business TV show, “Varney & Co,” in March 2022)
…or the time he tried to redirect a hurricane with a Sharpie. And we will be polite and not compare Joe’s “handling” of young girls with “grabbing them by the pussy” and walking in on naked teen girls at beauty pageants. It’s almost as if Republicans are BEGGING people to counter with a whataboutism as pretty much everything they can possibly come up with to shame Biden Trump has most assuredly done worse. There is nothing you can ding Biden for where Trump has not himself been more incompetent or sleazy or repugnent or Every. Single. Time.
And really, what about Hillary’s emails?
