I’ve been seeing many reasons for not wanting to get the anti-covid vaccine. Some more legit on the surface that others, but only on the surface, and I believe most of them are more political and partisan than real. The “I’m concerned about long-term effects” is one of them. If that one were legit you’d have people on both sides of the political aisle espousing it, and that’s not happening.
Then there’s the “God will protect” or “God has a plan” point-of-view.
Religion is a very important thing for people. It’s “who” they are to their core. Even ‘anti-religion’ is a religion, so to speak. So it’s difficult to argue against… when the argument is sincere. Many religious people are refusing vaccines based on their religious beliefs. God will protect them, God has a plan, and so on, and I have an issue with that. I do not believe that’s actually Biblical. I think it’s an excuse, a cop-out, for doing nothing. Pushing responsibility off on somebody or something else that cannot be assailed.
I submit the following analogy. This story is not Biblical, per se, but the overall scenario fits with Biblical scenarios. So, you’re implying that God would rather the multitude of non-vaxxed people who get sick to die, instead of just getting a shot or two?
This whole deal reminds me of the story of the man in the flood. He was first warned by the police to leave. He says, “No, God will save me.”
The flood comes and he’s on a roof, surrounded by water, and a man on a boat comes by, offers to help him. He says, “No, God will save me.”
Later he’s in the water, barely holding his head above water, and a helicopter comes by, extends a ladder, and the guy says, “No. God will save me.”
The guy drowns, goes to heaven, asks why God didn’t save him. God says, “I sent you the police, a boat, and a helicopter. What more did you want Me to do?”
Well, same thing is going on here. God has sent you genius people, caring people, doctors, nurses, masks, a vaccine that by all accounts is very effective*, yet you still fail to see that and think it will just magically happen in your favor like the guy above who drowned. You’re being handed the opportunity on a silver platter, what more can you possibly want?
*- No vaccine is 100%, that’s not even a realistic expectation.
